The rapper made the announcement on his radio show yesterday and revealed that US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were the first to know.
The couple asked Mariah outright about rumours she's expecting a double load when they bumped into her backstage at a charity event in Washington over the weekend.
'At this point she hadn't told anybody anything because doctors advised us to keep it ourselves until we get further along in the pregnancy,' Nick, 30, told listeners.
'But because of the excitement, she was overwhelmed and she shared with the President and First Lady that we are having twins.'
Mariah, 40, had a miscarriage in 2008.
She is due to give birth in the spring.
